What your gear is communicating to your dog:

Have you ever played pinball? You know that pullback thingy that shoots the ball. The more you pull back the farther the ball goes. That’s exactly what improper gear is doing to your dog (specifically harnesses). Think of the leash as direct line of communication to your dog. You’re pulling on the leash but the dog continues to pull against you. The tension on the leash is only encouraging your dog to pull. Switching to something like a slip lead will only better your communication. Your dog will understand what you expect on the leash through clear corrections (pressure on the leash). Think about it? Harnesses are successful for guide dogs & sled dogs...when their purpose is to control or pull what’s the other end.
